A community health worker (CHW) aids their community in getting access to healthcare services and screenings, provides wellness education and builds stronger connections between community members and healthcare systems, which can result in the reduced need for emergency services and improved public health.
Our Community Health Worker Training Program is a Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) approved CHW training site for both CHW and CHW instructor certification programs. Both certification programs are 160-hour competency-based training programs that cover the Texas eight core competencies, each composed of 20 content hours. The courses are fee-based and offered in English.
Certification benefits:
Prepare yourself for a career in healthcare
Develop professionally and enhance your existing skills
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to apply to the Texas DSHS certification for CHW or CHW instructor certification
For CHW instructors, their certification will allow them to become affiliated with DSHS approved CHW training centers throughout Texas and train other CHWs with DSHS approved curriculum.
